Waiting lists at DBTH

Information for patients waiting for an appointment or procedure at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals.

First of all, on behalf of the Trust I would like to apologise about the length of time you have waited to be seen. Unfortunately, like all providers across the country, restrictions imposed as a result of the pandemic has meant that many of our services have been unable to see as many patients as we would like, resulting in longer waiting times and a significant backlog of activity.

As certain policies relating to infection prevention and control have eased, we are now able to see more patients, but please check our current guidance when you get your appointment as we still have some restrictions in place even though these have been lifted in other settings.

We would like to thank you for your patience so far and reassure you that we will contact you as soon as possible with a date for your appointment. We are reviewing patients regularly to ensure everyone is seen according to clinical priority. We are prioritising patients who need care more urgently and ask for your understanding with this.

You may have seen the number of weeks waiting time for your treatment on the My Planned Care website. Please be aware that this is the average wait time, and this could be longer or shorter as we work through our waiting lists. Rest assured, colleagues are going as quickly as it is safe to do so.

If you’ve been referred by your GP and your condition has got worse whilst you have been waiting for a hospital appointment, or you are worried about new symptoms, please contact your GP. They will be able to review your symptoms and contact the hospital if you required.

If you’ve already had an appointment at the Trust and your symptoms have got worse, please get in touch with the department that you attended or spoke to. For non-urgent advice you can also call NHS 111.

If you think you no longer need an appointment, please contact us using the telephone number on your original appointment letter. This is important, so that we can use that time to see other patients.

Thank you for your patience and we will be in touch as soon as we are able to do so.

Dr Tim Noble,
Executive Medical Director
