Outpatient’s Clinic

Our Outpatients Team has  Speech and Language Therapists and Speech and Language Therapy Assistants that cover Doncaster and Bassetlaw.

What do we do?

The Outpatient’s Clinic Team sees children and young people from 2-18 who have Speech Sound Disorder (difficulties with saying the sounds in their words), Language Difficulties, Disorder or Developmental Language Disorder or children under 6 years of age who stammer.

Children and young people referred into the service will be seen by a Speech and Language Therapist for assessment and diagnosis and allocated to a Clinical Pathway.

They may then be seen by a Speech and Language Therapist or Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to work on targets that will support their Speech, Language and Communication Skills.

Children and young people are brought to see us in a clinic that is convenient for them to access.

We are sometimes able to work with educational staff to support practising and consolidation in the child/young person’s educational setting.

Where do we work?

Our clinics are:-

  • Devonshire House – Central Doncaster
  • Martin Wells Centre – Edlington
  • Verymuyden Centre – Thorne
  • Mexborough Health Centre
  • Retford Hospital – Outpatients Department
  • Bassetlaw Hospital – Child Development Centre

What to expect?

You will be sent a “Partial Booking Letter” asking you to book an initial Speech and Language Therapy Assessment Appointment.

At this appointment a case history will be taken where you can share your concerns and views. Your child/young person’s speech, language and communication needs will be assessed.

We will then provide advice/strategies and offer therapy sessions in clinic if needed.

Other information

We are able to request an interpreter for families where English is not their first language. This needs to be written on the referral form.
