Leisure Library

The Leisure Library, which is part of Doncaster Libraries, offers recreational reading in print, audio and digital formats, for all Trust staff, students and patients.

Joining the Library
To join the Library, complete the registration form available from the Library.  You will need to show your staff or student ID or Trust library card.  Once you have registered, you will have access to all public libraries in Doncaster. If you are already a member of Doncaster Libraries, you can use your card at DRI.

Enquiry Service
Library staff are available during normal opening hours to provide assistance or answer your enquiry. You are welcome to contact us in person or by telephone or submit your enquiry here by e-mail.

Books, Audiobooks and DVDs
Members may borrow up to 20 books and eight audio items for three weeks, plus six DVDs for one week. All items can be searched for on the Doncaster Libraries catalogue – items not in stock at DRI may be requested from other Doncaster libraries.

You can renew items in person or by phone or email, or via the Doncaster Libraries website, as long as they are not required by another reader. Please note that Doncaster Libraries charge fines on overdue items.

Quick Reads
Would you like something short, exciting and quick to read? Then why not try a Quick Read? Quick Reads aim to show that reading for pleasure is for everyone, whatever your interest and ability. A selection of Quick Reads, many of which are written by well-known authors, is now available from the Leisure Library.

Digital Library
Doncaster Libraries are able to offer four digital download services giving free 24 hour access to eBooks, eComics, eAudio and music downloads.

The eBook and eAudio services both give you ten downloads at a time for a three week period. The music download service offers you three tracks each week and these are yours to keep. There is no restriction on the number of eComics you may access.

Further information about how to access these services can be found at: http://library.doncaster.gov.uk/web/arena/library-download-services

24 Hour Library
Doncaster library members can enjoy the benefits of free access to several online information sources, including Oxford Reference, Public Information Online and Life in Great Britain (Citizenship information) from home even when the libraries are closed

In the library, including the DRI Leisure Library, you can access further resources including Ancestry and Find My Past.

To access all the resources in the 24 hour library collection, you will need your Doncaster library card number and PIN.

Computers, Wi-Fi and study space
The Library offers a comfortable environment for quiet study, group work or e-learning, plus relaxed seating areas where you can just spend some quiet time.
We have DMBC open access PCs which you can use to study, but which also allow you to check your emails, shop, access social networking sites, etc.  NHS PCs and scanning facilities are also available for Trust staff.

If you prefer, you can connect your Trust-provided or personal laptop or mobile device to the Trust Wi-Fi (Staff only). If you are giving a presentation, a data projector and laptop are available for loan.

Computer Guides
This is an extensive collection of learning guides about using modern technology, created by  Digital Unite. These easy-to-use guides are ideal for improving your own confidence and skills or for supporting other learners.  Library staff are available to give basic support.

Ward Trolley Service for Patients
For those patients unable to visit the library in person at DRI, a ward trolley service of leisure reading is provided on a regular basis throughout the week. Audio books are also available for loan – please ask the Library Volunteers for further information when they visit your ward. Similar facilities are available at Montagu Hospital and Tickhill Road Hospital.

Health & Wellbeing Collection, Books on Prescription and Mood-boosting Books
We offer access to the Reading Well Books on Prescription, Mood-boosting and Shelf Help Collections plus our own Health and Wellbeing Collection. For more information, please go to our Health and Wellbeing Library Service page.

We are also able to signpost you or your patients to online sources of reliable patient information for both adults and children for a very wide variety of conditions – please ask   Library staff.

And Finally – The Spotlight Reading Group

Would you like to discover some new authors? Read books you’d never normally go near? Break out of your normal reading habits with the Spotlight Reading Group.

Books are selected by the Literacy Team based at Central Library, Doncaster, and issued at the start of each month for two months.

Once you’ve read the book, you can leave a review – as long or short as you like – by emailing Annette. You can just send her a short note, or fill in this form here & email it to her.

The group is co-ordinated by Annette Winfrow – if you’re interested in joining the group, contact her at dbth.bas.library@nhs.net
