Joining the Library
To join the Library, ask staff on the enquiry desk for a registration form. You’ll need to show your staff or student ID or Trust library card.
Once registered, you’ll have access to all public libraries in Doncaster.
If you’re already a member of Doncaster Libraries, you can use your card here.
Is there an App?
Yes! – As it happens, there’s an app you can use to keep track of the books you’ve loaned from Doncaster Council libraries.
You can find more details about the app on the Council pages here or just search your app store for the “Doncaster Libraries” app.
Enquiry Service
Library staff are available during normal opening hours to provide assistance or answer enquiries. You’re welcome to contact us in person, by telephone 01302 642890 or DRI ext. 642890, or email your enquiry here.
Free Books, eBooks, eMagazines, eComics, Audiobooks, Music and DVDs
Members may borrow up to 20 books and eight audio items for three weeks, plus six DVDs for one week.
Search for items using the Doncaster Libraries catalogue here .
Items not in stock at DRI may be requested from other Doncaster libraries.
You can renew items in person, by phone or email, or via the Doncaster Libraries website – as long as they aren’t required by another reader.
Please note that Doncaster Libraries charge fines for overdue items.
Quick Reads
Would you like something short, exciting and quick to read? Why not try a Quick Read?
Quick Reads aim to show that reading for pleasure is for everyone, whatever your interest and ability.
A selection of Quick Reads, many of which are written by well-known authors, is now available from the Leisure Library – ask staff for details.
Digital Library
Doncaster Libraries offer four digital download services giving free 24 hour access to eBooks, eComics, eAudio and music downloads.
- eBooks and eAudio: Both give you ten downloads at a time for a three week period.
- Music downloads: Three tracks each week that are yours to keep.
- eComics: No restriction on the number you may access.

Library at Home
Doncaster library members can enjoy the benefits of free access to several online information sources, including Oxford Reference, Public Information Online and Life in Great Britain (Citizenship information) from home even when the libraries are closed.
To access all the resources in the 24 hour library collection, you will need your Doncaster library card number and PIN.

Computers, Wi-Fi and study space
The Library offers a comfortable environment for quiet study, group work or e-learning, plus relaxed seating areas where you can just spend some quiet time.
We have DMBC open access PCs which you can use to study, but which also allow you to check your emails, shop, access social networking sites, etc. NHS PCs and scanning facilities are also available for Trust staff.
If you prefer, you can connect your Trust-provided or personal laptop or mobile device to the Trust Wi-Fi (Staff only). If you are giving a presentation, a data projector and laptop are available for loan.
Computer Guides
This is an extensive collection of learning guides about using modern technology.
These easy-to-use guides are ideal for improving your own confidence and skills or for supporting other learners. Library staff are also available to give basic support.

Who do you think you are?
In the library, including the DRI Leisure Library, you can look up your family history with resources including Ancestry and Find My Past – ask staff for more information.
Ward Trolley Service for Patients (CURRENTLY SUSPENDED DUE TO COVID-19)
For patients unable to visit the DRI Leisure library in person, a ward trolley service of leisure reading is provided on a regular basis throughout the week.
Audio books are also available for loan – please ask the Library Volunteers for further information when they visit your ward.
Similar facilities are available at Montagu Hospital and Tickhill Road Hospital.
Health & Well-being Collection, Books on Prescription and Mood-boosting Books
We offer access to the ‘Reading Well’ Books on Prescription, Mood-boosting and ‘Shelf Help’ book Collections plus our own Health and Well-being Collection.

Would you like to discover some new authors? Read books you’d never normally go near?
Break out of your normal reading habits with the Spotlight Reading Group.
Books are selected by the Literacy Team based at Central Library, Doncaster, and issued at the start of each month for two months.
Once you’ve read the book, it would be great to hear what you thought of it – write as much or as little as you like. Just click here.
